About Us

Emirates Geriatrics Society

Geriatrics is a medical specialty focused on the health and well-being of older adults. The term originates from the Greek words “Geras” (old age) and “iatros” (physician). Geriatricians undergo specialized training to address the complex, often atypical presentations of illness in seniors, and manage multi-morbidity—the coexistence of multiple chronic conditions. More than treating disease, geriatrics adopts a holistic, person-centered approach that looks at the medical, functional, psychological, and social aspects of ageing. Geriatricians serve as clinicians, advocates, educators, and team leaders, working collaboratively across disciplines to ensure that older adults receive individualized, dignified, and compassionate care at every stage of their journey. Through education, collaboration, and advocacy, the Emirates Geriatrics Society fosters a community of professionals passionate about improving the lives of older adults. Our mission is to ensure that the aging population in the UAE can thrive, maintaining their independence and contributing meaningfully to society.

Vision

To transform the healthcare landscape for Seniors in the UAE and regionally, whereby they receive high-quality, timely, personalized care in the right setting. Empowering and supporting Seniors to participate actively in society and contribute by sharing their wisdom and lived experience.

Mission

To improve healthcare for Senior Citizens. This is the work of multidisciplinary healthcare professionals led by Geriatricians working in community, primary and acute care settings in all areas of the United Arab Emirates.

Who We Are

The Emirates Geriatrics Society is the national organization of healthcare providers dedicated to advancing the health, independence, and dignity of older adults across the United Arab Emirates. We are committed to shaping the future of geriatric care through clinical excellence, education, advocacy, and research. Our work aligns with the UAE’s broader goals of developing senior-friendly systems and services that promote active, healthy, and purposeful ageing. We support the creation and expansion of specialized geriatric facilities while also training and equipping a capable healthcare workforce ready to meet the needs of a growing ageing population.

What We Do

Support healthcare professionals with specialized training, mentorship, and resources to deliver high-quality, evidence-based geriatric care. Raise awareness about the unique challenges of ageing, including cognitive decline, frailty, functional limitations, and chronic disease management. Promote holistic, person-centered models of care that prioritize individual values, autonomy, and preferences.
Collaborate with public and private stakeholders to enhance senior health services, from hospitals and primary care to community-based settings. Drive research, innovation, and policy development to elevate the standards and accessibility of geriatric healthcare in the UAE.

Join Our Community

At the Emirates Geriatrics Society, we believe in a future where older adults are not only cared for—but celebrated and empowered. As we respond to the evolving needs of our ageing population, we invite clinicians, researchers, policymakers, caregivers, and advocates to join our mission.
Let’s work together to build a healthcare system where seniors in the UAE can age with dignity, grace, and opportunity, making meaningful contributions to society every step of the way.
