UAE Reinforces Its Commitment to the Health and Wellbeing of Older Adults

The UAE continues to reaffirm its commitment to supporting the health, dignity, and quality of life of its older adult population, recognising senior wellbeing as a national and humanitarian priority. With an ageing demographic and increasing life expectancy, the country is intensifying efforts to ensure that older citizens receive comprehensive, high-quality care across clinical, social, and community domains. Dr. Salwa Al Suwaidi, Director of the Seniors’ Happiness Centre and President of the Emirates Geriatrics Society, highlighted the importance of sustaining and expanding services dedicated to senior wellbeing. She emphasized that caring for older adults is at the core of the nation’s values and reflects the UAE’s long-standing commitment to social cohesion, compassion, and respect for its elders. Under Dr. Salwa’s leadership, the Emirates Geriatrics Society continues to advance national geriatric initiatives by promoting evidence-based clinical practice, supporting healthcare workforce development, and strengthening awareness around healthy ageing. Her advocacy has been central in expanding geriatric services, enhancing early detection of frailty and cognitive decline, and improving access to multidisciplinary care. . Nationwide initiatives aimed at preventing chronic diseases, promoting physical activity, strengthening cognitive health, and enhancing nutritional wellbeing have gained increasing momentum. Community programs and senior engagement platforms further reinforce social inclusion and protect older adults from isolation, ensuring they remain active and connected members of society. The UAE’s proactive approach, supported by dedicated leaders like Dr. Salwa Al Suwaidi, positions the nation at the forefront of healthy ageing efforts in the region. With ongoing investment in senior services and a strong national vision, the country remains committed to enabling older adults to live healthier, safer, and more fulfilling lives.
